Like their parents, kids from military families make sacrifices too. Today’s military children face a challenging and frightening reality: We are a nation at war. For them, America’s long-term commitment to the war on terror means that Mom or Dad will likely deploy to a war zone.

When Jenny's husband first deployed to Iraq, she struggled to find appropriate books to help her children cope with their father’s absence. By the time he returned from his second deployment, Jenny felt compelled to write the book she wished she had been able to read to her own children.

With it’s heart-felt illustrations, I’m a Hero Too compassionately addresses the feelings of fear, anger, sadness and guilt associated with a parent’s deployment to a combat zone. The main character models effective coping skills for children facing an overwhelming range of emotions. I’m a Hero Too opens the lines of communication within families, reminds the remaining spouse that she is not alone and that the entire family’s service is appreciated.
